The role
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Field Applications Specialist to play a critical customer facing role in supporting evaluations of the SPARTA® platform and ensuring successful client outcomes. This position combines deep scientific understanding with excellent communication and problem-solving skills to guide customers through complex analytical workflows and demonstrate the value of single-particle Raman spectroscopy.
In this role, your key responsibilities will include:
Technical Expertise & Demonstrations
- Develop advanced expertise in SPARTA® technology and its applications across lipid nanoparticles, exosomes, polymer systems, and other nanoformulations. (Previous handling of nanoparticles as drug delivery systems is desirable).
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver high quality instrument demonstrations at client sites and remotely.
- Collaborate closely with Account/Sales Managers to understand client objectives and define clear demonstration success criteria.
- Present technical capabilities with clarity and confidence to varied scientific audiences.
Customer Guidance & Post-Demo Engagement
- Support clients throughout the full evaluation lifecycle, ensuring a smooth handover from sales to applications and maintaining excellent communication.
- Conduct post-demo data analysis using statistical and analytical techniques, preparing compelling reports that highlight system performance and scientific insight.
- Provide technical follow-up to accelerate sales conversions and help customers assess instrument fit for their research programmes.
- Serve as a trusted advisor by interpreting results, troubleshooting analytical challenges, and guiding customers on best practices.
Collaboration & Market Insight
- Work in partnership with other Application Specialists and Engineers to deepen the customer experience and enable successful instrument adoption.
- Capture customer feedback, competitive insight, and market trends to inform internal product development and commercial strategy.
- Represent SPARTA Biodiscovery at conferences, workshops, user meetings, webinars, and other community facing events to raise product awareness and generate new opportunities.
Cross-Functional Support
- Contribute to the creation of technical materials, application notes, and training content.
- Assist sales colleagues during proposal development, evaluation scoping, and technical qualification of opportunities.
- Engage with the broader start-up environment, contributing flexibly across varied tasks typical of a growing life science instrumentation company.
Key selection criteria
- Educational Background: Advanced degree (MSc, PhD) in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Bioengineering or a related field.
- Technical Expertise: Experience in nanoparticle/nanoformulation characterisation or vibrational spectroscopy (Raman, IR).
- Commercial Experience: Experience selling scientific technologies or services, particularly involving long sales cycles.
- Communication: Excellent presentation and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex science effectively.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.
- Travel Availability: Willingness to travel to UK, EU and/or US client sites (up to ~40%).
- Ideally London-based for training and team interaction.
