Field Applications Specialist

SPARTA Biodiscovery is a scientific instruments business, centred around the SPARTA® – Single Particle Automated Raman Trapping Analysis – technology. We enable development of next-gen nano-formulations and nano-therapeutics by providing high level compositional analysis of nanoparticles through use of the AGIS I, our primary product.

Currently implemented in both academic and industry facilities in Europe and North America, SPARTA users have optimized formulation parameters in LNP and PNP production, demonstrated incorporation of critical components at the single particle level, and identified diagnostic potential of biologically derived nanoparticles. The use of our Raman approach continues to evolve as users identify novel ways to utilise the data-rich output and as we develop further SOPs and software improvements.

We are looking to grow our team with a Field Applications Specialist who has a sales focused mindset and are passionate about sharing new and developing technologies with potential users. New recruits will be keen to guide clients through instrument evaluations and become an expert in a novel technology developed in a young growing company.

London-based Biotech

As a spin-out company of Imperial College, Sparta Biodiscovery is based at Scale Space in White City, London, a growing life science cluster with a modern office and brand-new laboratory space. SPARTA Biodiscovery invites you to become part of a vibrant and professional workplace with the chance of bringing ideas to life and science to market for the benefit of both society and human welfare.

Our mission

SPARTA Biodiscovery was established with the mission of providing a cutting-edge solution for high-throughput single-particle characterisation of novel nanoformulations to expedite their development and optimisation, as well as manufacturing and quality control. Our unique patented SPARTA® platform measures biomolecular signatures for single particles in nanoformulations to provide information on their composition, therapeutic loading and functionalisation with minimal sample preparation and particle modification.

We are passionate about solving challenges in global health through enabling rapid development of novel therapeutic nanoformulations for previously undruggable targets. We are building a team of people who share our passion for solving this problem through close collaboration and innovative thinking. We seek individuals who are driven to rapidly translate science into products and services, capable of transforming the nanoformulation analytical space, in a creative, supportive, and collaborative environment.

The role

We are seeking a highly motivated and driven Field Applications Specialist to join our team. In this role, your key responsibilities will include

  • Developing expertise with our unique technology for single nanoparticle analysis
  • Work closely with clients to understand their analytical needs and how new technology will affect their business
  • Demonstrate the capabilities of the AGIS I at client facilities, working with customers of varied backgrounds (lipid based nanoparticles, exosomes, polymer NPs)
  • Conduct technical meetings, presentations, and seminars
  • Support customers throughout sales and post-sales processes with technical insight and ultimately guide the clients through to purchase.
  • Perform post-demonstration data analysis, using statistical and analytical techniques, and presenting findings, insights and evidence of the product’s capabilities to the customer
  • Develop and share market insights and customer feedback with the internal team
  • Generate product awareness by engaging with the scientific community in conferences, webinars and online media.

You will work in close collaboration with other Applications Specialists and Engineers to enable our customers to leverage the wide breadth of capabilities and applications of the SPARTA® system. Duties will be varied as befitting a start-up environment, focusing on customer facing interactions at client’s sites, sales activities, conferences and exhibitions.

If you are a commercially minded self-starter with a passion for novel analytical techniques and desire to make a meaningful impact in the life sciences and technology sectors, we would love to speak to you!

    • Nanoparticle/nanoformulation characterisation
    • Vibrational spectroscopy such as Raman spectroscopy or IR, from a technical and functional perspective
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly sharing complex science to a new audience
  • Passion for solving technical problems
  • Ability to travel to UK, EU and/or US destinations – up to 20-25% of work time could be at client facilities

Additional desirable skills

  • Experience with nanoformulation or nanoparticle manufacturing (such as LNPs, exosomes and extracellular vesicles, viral vectors)
  • Experience with spectroscopy-based techniques, microscopy and materials characterisation
  • Captured sales data using CRM, Ideally Salesforce
  • Conducted training or physical demonstrations of life science technologies
